Olivier Petiteau, Inadequat

St-Florent-le-Vieil

16 SEPTEMBER TO 05 NOVEMBER 2023

The Inadequat exhibition presents a deliberately motley collection of mixed-media works and installations produced at different stages in Olivier Petiteau's career.

Through his works, the artist depicts the world around us, drawing on our environment made up mainly of codes where everything has a function and everything is linked to marketing and communication. By exaggerating, distorting and diverting, she creates a kind of ironic staging of this numerical mirage. His 2D works are not abstract, but come from the world of communication, thanks to the statistical data he re-uses. Most are meticulously chosen for their degree of absurdity. Olivier Petiteau's apparent geometric abstraction could thus be called "geometric communication". For his works in volume, he sets out to question more specifically the function and utility of objects by dissociating the form of an object from the material of which it is composed, and then reconstructing it: a slot machine made of earthenware, a hi-fi system made of plasterboard... Inadequat is a gesture without a programme, an unfortunate exhibition.
