Every summer, leading contemporary artists are invited to share their vision of the city, by imagining a specially-created, in-situ work. In 2023, a dozen artistic experiments and digital works are associated with the event.
As you wander around, you'll come across giant digital prints scattered across the city's buildings (Grégory Chatonsky), hanging garments on rue Robert de La Villehervé (Emma Ertzscheid), stone sculptures in front of the Hôtel de Ville (Stefan Rinck), glass sculptures at the Jardins suspendus (Fleur Helluin), and at the train station, where the bay windows will be given a splash of color (Isabelle Cornaro).
In this context, Didier Mencoboni is proposing an intervention called "Rayon vert" (Green Beam), which will be present in a variety of forms throughout the city of Le Havre, throughout the summer of 2023.
Didier Mencoboni presents the project as follows: "Green Beam" is an optical and atmospheric phenomenon that takes the form of a flash of green light on a clear day by the ocean at sunset. For this project, it's not a question of reproducing it or going in search of it by watching for it at the water's edge; the green ray is the project's trigger. This project offers a translation of a visual phenomenon occurring in a marine environment, retaining its intensity and the difficulty of perceiving it; we know it exists, many have heard of it, but we rarely see it, without having seen it, everyone can imagine it. The work would be terrestrial, would have a colorful intensity and by its dispersion, notably in private spaces, would be visible to some but not to all, it's possible to talk about it without having seen it.
