about the gallery
Oniris.art
in Rennes since 1986Opened in September 1986 with an exhibition by François Morellet, Galerie Oniris has become one of a key venue for contemporary art in Bretagne.
Under the direction of Florent Paumelle since 2012, the gallery has maintained a balance between established artists and a new, emerging generation, sharing a common conceptual language. This approach makes it possible to present innovative works while respecting the foundations of painting and abstraction that have characterized the Oniris gallery project since it was opened in 1986 by its mother, Yvonne Paumelle.
For almost four decades, the basic philosophy of the Oniris project has remained the same: to regularly exhibit the recent work of an evolving group of some thirty artists, including established names such as Vera Molnar, Norman Dilworth, Aurelie Nemours, Geneviève Asse, Christian Bonnefoi, Alain Clément, Philippe Cognée, Jean-Pierre Pincemin and Claude Viallat, as well as others to be rediscovered.
Established in Rennes from day one, Oniris has forged a solid reputation thanks to the successive exhibitions of its artists, whom the gallery regularly invites to solo shows. Far from its home base, Oniris has been a regular participant in international contemporary art fairs for 30 years, both in Paris (Fiac, Drawing Now, Art Paris and Galeristes) and abroad (Germany, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland and the United States).
After 38 years, the Oniris gallery's ambition remains unchanged: to offer everyone an exhibition space with a physical venue open to all in Rennes, free to the public and user-friendly, with a program of 6 to 8 exhibitions a year.
At the same time, to disseminate and promote the work of its artists through the possibilities offered by the Internet and social networks. Since the late 90's, Oniris has adopted online solutions to promote the work of its artists beyond its geographical borders.
During the summer of 2024, the gallery underwent a comprehensive renovation of its main exhibition space at 38 rue d'Antrain to better welcome you in a bright, uncluttered venue.
